The 535i makes great power but isn't quite as reliable. For a 3-series, I'd go for the LCI (2009-2011) E90 328i. Last years of the E90, drives great, retains hydraulic steering, and it gets the upgraded iDrive system which is leaps and bounds better than the one in older E90's.
