Ive got a 2005 Octavia. I locked my car from the key fob, then returned 20 mins later and the fob wasn’t unlocking the car, no buttons on the fob were affecting the car, so I opened the door and drove off. I got the batteries replaced although the old battery still had some juice in it. The buttons totally do nothing to the car. On a Vauxhall you can deadlock with the fob and open with the key (the alarm goes off and the imobiliser is active though) If the battery was ok and I was just locked out it wouldn't be as much of an issue, as the AA/RAC method of using wedges and a long pointing device should be adequate.
